Why your pond water stays green

The 3 Most common reasons it happens:

  1. UV Clarifier is too small or Ineffective

A UV unit that is undersized or has low flow control will not fully treat the water. Another reason maybe the UV Unit requires a bulb change and it is common for the effectiveness of any UV Clarifier to decrease after 12-18 months.

 2. Poor Circulation

If water is not passing through the filter system efficiently, algae will continue to grow.

 3. Excess Nutrients

Overfeeding fish or heavy stocking increases nutrients in the water, feeding algae growth.

How to Fix it

Most green water issues improve by

  • Correctly sizing UV Clarifiers
  • Improving filtration flow rate
  • Matching system to pond volume and fish load
  • Reducing excess waste in the pond
  • Create shaded areas across the pond

Green water is rarely solved by chemicals alone. In most cases, the solution is a properly balanced filtration system that matches the pond conditions.
